Overview
Morgan & Finnegan, L.L.P. is pleased to announce the George B. Finnegan, Jr. Memorial Scholars Program. We are committed to perpetuating our tradition of excellence in Intellectual Property law by rewarding annually the incoming first-year associate whose legal writing best demonstrates the qualities personified by George B. Finnegan, Jr., expressly: 1) creativity, 2) originality, 3) clarity of expression, 4) accuracy and thoroughness of research, 5) contributing to the legal profession, and 6) exceptional style, organization and content of work.
Eligibility
Commencing in 2007, the incoming Morgan & Finnegan, L.L.P. first-year associates who will be starting in September 2008 are eligible to participate in the George B. Finnegan, Jr. Memorial Scholars Program. Subsequently, all Morgan & Finnegan, L.L.P. first-year associates who will be starting in the September following their graduation from law school will be eligible to participate.
Judging
Winners will be determined at the sole discretion of Morgan & Finnegan, L.L.P.
Prize
• First Place: $5,000.
• Prize will be paid on the winner’s first paycheck following commencement of employment.
Submission
Topics must be within Intellectual Property law and should reflect participants’ desire to be on the cutting edge of developing Intellectual Property law as well as vision, creativity and originality.
• Please submit two (2) hard copies (no e-mails or faxes).
• Submissions must be received by May 1st of the year in which the author will be starting.
• Submissions must be of publishable quality, but must not have been published or used otherwise before May 1st of the year in which the author will be starting. Papers used for academic credit or law reviews/journals may not be used.
• Papers should be double-spaced and typed.
• Papers may be from ten (10) to thirty (30) pages long including footnotes.
• Authors may not submit Morgan & Finnegan, L.L.P. work product.
• One entry per participant.

Publishing Rights
The author will retain ownership of the copyright for the paper submitted. However, authors receiving the George B. Finnegan, Jr. Memorial Scholars Program prize must first grant Morgan & Finnegan, L.L.P. a worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to publish or have the work published. Authors shall retain the right to publish or have published submitted papers. However, George B. Finnegan, Jr. Memorial Scholars Program prize winners must include a footnote on the first page noting the George B. Finnegan, Jr. Memorial Scholars Program Prize.
